Refrigerator Replacement

Check out the following information, analysis tools, and energy data that will help you incorporate refrigerator replacement into your Weatherization Program:

Incorporating Refrigerator Replacement into the Weatherization Program is an information tool kit prepared by D&R International, Ltd., for DOE. It outlines DOE's auditing, installation, and disposal requirements regarding refrigerator replacement. The document offers useful information on practical metering strategies. (104 kb PDF file) (Note: Appendix A: Refrigerator Metering Equipment has been updated with the most current plug load meter information).

Refrigerator Replacement in the Weatherization Program: Putting a Chill on Energy Waste is a special report by Larry Kinney and Rana Belshe that explores the issues that are critical to developing and running an effective refrigerator replacement program. (4.3 MB PDF file)

A simple analysis tool developed by D&R International, Ltd., for DOE helps Weatherization providers determine the cost-effectiveness of replacing existing refrigerators in eligible households using the same calculation methods and assumptions programmed into NEAT.

Energy use data is available in several formats for over 41,000 refrigerators, refrigerator-freezers, and freezers from the Directory of Certified Refrigerators, Freezers, and Refrigerator Freezers published by the California Energy Commission (CEC) from 1979 to 1992 (no directory for 1991 was available).
