Building Structure
Although building rehabilitation is beyond the scope of the Weatherization Assistance Program, workers frequently encounter homes in poor structural condition.
Structural Integrity:
Refer dwellings whose structural integrity is in question to the US Department of Housing and Urban Development.
Allowable Repairs:
Weatherization workers may perform repairs necessary for the effective performance or preservation of weatherization materials. Examples of these limited repairs include sealing minor roof leaks to preserve new attic insulation and repairing water-damaged flooring after replacing a water heater.
Deferral Standards:
Weatherization services may need to be deferred until dwellings can be made safe for crews and occupants. Refer major structural problems to the appropriate state agency and/or the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
