Health and Safety
In 1990, the State Energy Efficiency Programs Improvement Act (SEEPIA) added health and safety to the statutory purposes of the Weatherization Assistance Program, allowing DOE funds to be used for remedying energy-related health and safety hazards. State Weatherization agencies have since been required to take all reasonable precautions against performing work on homes that will subject workers or clients to health and safety risks. This Web site provides:
(1) Information on how to handle health and safety hazards that need to be remedied before or because of the installation of weatherization materials.
(2) Guidance to states developing
health and safety plans, which at a minimum should consider the hazards under the health and safety tab.
(3) Information on
deferral standards when it is appropriate to defer weatherization services due to health and safety hazards.
Weatherization agencies are encouraged to check this site often to obtain the latest information on health and safety issues. Users who wish to contribute health and safety articles of their own may contact
info@waptac.org.
