Refrigerator replacement became an allowable energy conservation measure under the U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) Weatherization Assistance Program on October 6, 2000. DOE has compiled the following information to help states incorporate refrigerator replacement into their programs to get the most energy savings for their clients. The ENERGY STAR
®
partners on this site have refrigerator bulk purchasing arrangements that accommodate the Weatherization Assistance Program.
Benefits
Bulk purchasing has many benefits for Weatherization providers, such as reducing cost and facilitating program implementation. In addition to delivery and installation of the ENERGY STAR qualified refrigerator, the supplier often handles decommissioning of the old unit as well. Bulk purchasing provides turn-key solutions for Weatherization providers who are conducting refrigerator replacement in weatherized homes.

How it Works
Weatherization agencies should contact the participating ENERGY STAR partners to negotiate a bulk purchasing plan. Weatherization agencies should compare arrangements offered by each partner and select the one most suitable for their agency.

The ENERGY STAR label managed by the U.S. Department of Energy and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is the government-backed symbol for energy efficiency.
