Weatherization Day 2007 Activities

During October's Energy Month, Washington held a Carbon Reduction Campaign which included coordinated, statewide efforts focused on the "pyramid" of Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) benefits. Invitees included Senator Murray and Governor Chris Greogrie (with whom WAP is a priority). The state also issued a public service announcement bringing awareness to the Program.

Weatherization Day 2006 Activities

This year, Governor Chris Gregoire signed a proclamation declaring Oct 30 to be National Weatherization Day in the state. During this period, local agency, Kittitas County HopeSource was recognized by the local media as true resource for low-income families, with much positive reference to the Weatherization Assistance Program as a whole.

Weatherization Day 2005 Activities

Washington's Weatherization Day was a great success. The Spokane Neighborhood Action Programs (SNAP) gained extensive media coverage from a local television station and the Pierce County Community Action Agency held a blower-door demonstration at the South Hill Mall. Over 100 people visited their display which included brochures and prizes.

Weatherization Day 2004 Activities

This year, the governor proclaimed October 30 as Weatherization Day in Washington State and issued 26 "gold seal" versions of the proclaimation to each Weatherization agency encouraging them to work with their local elected officials to have Weatherization Day proclaimed in their cities or counties.

Weatherization Day 2003 Activities

The Governor's Office declared October 30th as Weatherization Day and each local agency was provided with an original proclamation for posting in their office. Two of their local agencies conducted unique events to celebrate the day. The Okanogan County Community Action held a "Weatherization Day Community Putluck" where they served Indian tacos, gave away showerheads, encouraged folks to come in costume, and had the local radio broadcast from the site. The Pierce County Community Action set up a display at one of the local malls and used balloons and games to attract patrons to the display area. The display included pictures of weatherization work in progress including ceiling and cap insulation, wall insulation, a conservation education video, two light meter displays, games, and literature. Other agencies, like the Snohomish County Human Services Department, used the local media and specialized publications to promote the Program and its services. Plans are underway to implement similiar events in 2004.

Weatherization Day 2001 Activities

The Governor proclaimed October 30th as Weatherization Day in support of the national effort to promote this important low-income initiative. Two local agencies hosted site demonstrations to showcase Weatherization technologies. The local agency serving Clark County held a site demonstration in conjunction with their client education presentation in partnership with the local PUD and EnergyStar consultant and held at a large multi-family complex.

The State office and many local agencies issued press releases about the WAP to local media outlets. Local newspapers published stories based on the local and state releases. Local TV affiliates for CBS and ABC sent crews to Clark County to cover the site demonstration. The local NBC affiliate filmed live from the site and a local cable access channel filmed the event.
