Weatherization Day 2007 Activities
This year, Governor Rick Perry issued a proclamation declaring October 30, 2007, Weatherization Day in Texas.
The Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs (TDHCA) developed a "News You Can Use" document that featured weatherization statistics, including statistics from the Department's Weatherization Assistance Program, information about the WAP, and service areas and contact information for every Subrecipient in the state that administers WAP. The document was sent to all state legislators, giving them information to share with their constituents.
TDHCA also posted a special icon featuring the "Weatherization Works!" logo and quick links to weatherization tips for consumers, and WAP overview (background, target populations and eligible activities) on the home page of its website.
Combined Community Action, Inc., in Giddings, Texas conducted a successful WAP site demonstration at a weatherization house in their service territory. Local elected officials, a representative from the local newspaper, a Bluebonnet Electric representative, agency and TDHCA staff attended the event.
Weatherization Day 2000 Activities
On October 26, the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs offered a press release to area media outlets to announce the Weatherization Day celebration. In the release, the Department expressed its support of the official declaration, made by the U.S. Department of Energy, noting the importance of improving the conservation of energy in homes through Weatherization. The state WAP office encouraged the 36 local agencies in the state to make similar releases to their local media outlets.
