Weatherization Day 2007 Activities

In Tennessee, Governor Phil Bredesen issued a proclamation declaring October 30 to be Weatherization Day throughout the state. In celebration of this day and the Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) several local agencies sponsored site demonstrations and other media activities in their local communities.
Following up on their work with the Energy Task Force started last October, the Tennessee WAP is beginning a pilot project with a small number of utility companies and their weatherization agencies in jointly working on homes of the elderly who apply for the weatherization program.

The energy company provides funding for additional work beyond what WAP can do.

The state held their first site demonstration in October 2007 as a joint activity of the WAP and a local utility. Several people from the energy company, the media, a state senator and representative from Senator Corker's office, as well as our staff were on-site as they began work on the home of an elderly lady. It was the first of what they hope to be many joint endeavors!

Weatherization Day 2006 Activities

While Tennessee still used some "traditional" means to celebrate Weatherization Day 2006, such as the proclamation issued by Governor Phil Bredesen and promotion through a local media article entitled "Turning Down the Heat, Turn Up Savings", this year's celebrations cumulated with the final presentation of a comprehensive Weatherization Assistance Program report to the Tennessee Regulatory Commission.

The written document, available for public review, was designed to meet ever-growing interest from utilities and other potential stakeholders. It incorporates key recommendations for coordinating with the WAP in repairs and other, additional measures to homes.

In additional to the report, officials were given information packets which included the Governor's Proclamation. They were educated about Energy Awareness Month as well as the need for an improved client education/energy conservation component and what utilities and other community groups could do to help. These Weatherization Day activities are anticipated to yield significant results and will help the state connect with new partners in their efforts to serve their clients.

Weatherization Day 2005 Activities

This year, the Tennessee Weatherization Assistance Program conducted its very first on-site demonstration to promote the WAP and Weatherization Day. This activity received coverage from the Channel 5 News. Governor Phil Bredesen signed a Weatherization Day proclamation encouraging celebration on a statewide level.

Weatherization Day 2004 Activities

On October 30, 2004, Governor Phil Bredesen signed a proclamation designating the day as Weatherization Day in Tennessee. A demonstration of the House of Pressure and an overview of the state's Weatherization program were provided for governmental leaders and the media.

Weatherization Day 2003 Activities

Governor Bredesen signed a Weatherization Day proclamation, encouraging the celebration at a statewide level. Plans are underway for the Governor to sign a similar proclamation in 2004. State officials have also initiated scheduling of events and demonstrations in conjunction with local Weatherization agencies.
