Weatherization Day 2007 Activities
This year, Governor Mark Sanford issued a proclamation declaring October 30 to be Weatherization Day 2007 in the state of South Carolina. During the observance of this day, the South Carolina Governor's Office of Economic Opportunity (OEO) worked with South Carolina Electric and Gas (SCE&G) to weatherize homes in Columbia, Bluffton, and Myrtle Beach.
This work was completed through the Aiken/Barnwell/Lexington Community Action Agency, Charleston County Human Services Commission, and Waccamaw Economic Opportunity Council.
SCE&G contributed $50,000 to the OEO Weatherization Assistance Program, which was equally distributed to three agencies.
Weatherization Day 2006 Activities
On October 30, South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford proclaimed Weatherization Day 2006 encouraging celebrations on a statewide level. Following his proclamation, the Berkeley and Dorchester Counties Economic Development Corp. held a Weatherization Day demonstration at their Outreach Office aimed at educating residents on energy efficiency.
During the event, local agency staff demonstrated how to use various types of weatherization equipment and distributed information on mold and mildew, lead safety, electrical safety, and energy savings as well as the danger of using heaters without vents. The demonstration attracted media attention from both the Charleston Post and Courier.
