Weatherization Day 2007 Activities

This year Rhode Island Celebrated October 30th's Weatherization Day through a comprehensive press event coordinated by the Community Action Program Directors' Association. This event was hosted by the Tri-Town Community Action Agency at the Johnston Senior Center. Joseph DeSantis, Tri-Town Executive Director opened the forum explaining the success of the WAP to and introducing the Mayor of Johnston.

The Mayor Joseph Polisena spoke highly of his relationship with Tri-Town and of his knowledge of WAP and its importance to the town, state and nation.

Michael Snitzer the State WAP manager spoke about the activities going on Statewide and the benefits of WAP. He then read a Gubernatorial Proclamation from Governor Donald Carcieri proclaiming October 30, 2007 as Weatherization Day in the State of Rhode Island.

Ralph Groves the State Chief of Low Income Efficiency Programs spoke in detail about WAP's achievements from an energy conservation, environmental, client safety and health point of view.

After informal discussions and refreshments about fifteen people went on a site visit to an elderly client who received WAP services and a new heating system through the program.

Media coverage was provided by the Providence Journal.

Weatherization Day 2006 Activities

This year, Rhode Island Governor Donald Carcieri issued a proclamation announcing October 30 to be Weatherization Day, providing our energy partners with "Certificates of Appreciation" and encouraging celebrations on a statewide level. On October 1st, the Office of Energy Resources sponsored an Energy Fair at the Crown Plaza where weatherization and other conservation measures were showcased for the public, local media, and key state holders. The event had 45 exhibitors and was attended by approximately 500 people. This event yielded attention from several media outlets including one local TV station.

Weatherization Day 2005 Activities

This year, Rhode Island held a tour of a newly weatherized home for the benefit of Senator Jack Reed. The event yielded much media coverage including channels 10, 12 and the Providence Journal.

Sen. Reed spoke of the need to increase funding for Weatherization to help clients cope with the record high energy prices. Meanwhile, the slogan "Weatherization Works" was featured on Channel 10's "Coffee Cup Salute".

On the evening of October 27th Channel 10 did a prime-time, 90 second spot on a home being weatherized. The piece was highly favorable.

Weatherization Day 2004 Activities

RI's Weatherization agency had coffee cups made with the "Weatherization Works" logo and the major local station promoted the program on its morning news show.


Weatherization Day 2003 Activities

Governor Donald L. Carcieri declared October 30th as "Weatherization Day" during a ceremony conducted at the State House in Providence. The Governor also presented certificates to several Weatherization partners in recognition of their outstanding contribution over 25 years of working with the Program, including: Self-Help, Inc., South County Community Action, Westbay Community Action, Comprehensive Community Action Programs, Tri-town Community Action, Blackstone Valley Community Action, Providence Community Action, and New England Gas Company. The Governor also recognized those state partners who have helped expand the services that the Program provides to low-income families, including: Rhode Island Department of Health, Providence Planning and Development, Rhode Island Housing, and Visiting Nurses Association. Plans are underway for the Governor to sign a similiar proclamation in 2004.


Weatherization Day 2001 Activities

The Governor proclaimed October 30th as Weatherization Day in support of the national effort to promote this important low-income initiative. The State office sponsored a celebration and recognized Weatherization personnel from around the State for their excellent work on behalf of needy families.
