Weatherization Day 2007 Activities

Two key Weatherization Day events were held in the state of Illinois on October 30, 2007.

The first event was in the Rogers Park area of Chicago where weatherization staff conducted an on-site demonstration at a client's home. This demonstration highlighted the latest in tools, techniques, and Weatherization work. The event was attended by several local officials, state legislators, and representatives from the city of Chicago. A reception/light lunch was then held at the Southeast Asian Center, which gave CEDA an opportunity to talk to the participants and go into more detail about the Program. The event yielded some attention from the press.

In the Chicago suburb of Downers Grove, Commonwealth Edison hosted a National Weatherization Day press event to kick off the announcement of an electric rate relief Weatherization Component. The utility company plans to add $4 million to the Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) to provide Weatherization to all-electric households in their service area. The event was held at a 164-unit, all-electric, multi-family building for low-income seniors. Attendees included several reporters, State Legislators, local county and municipal officials, and community groups. A tour of the building and work in progress was conducted following the announcement.

Weatherization Day 2006 Activities

On October 30, Governor Rod R. Blagojevich launched the Keep Warm Illinois campaign to coincide with National Weatherization Day. The campaign is a comprehensive effort to help Illinois residents, especially the elderly, families with small children and persons with disabilities, prepare for and cope with high home heating costs this winter. During the event, Blagojevich described the services available to low income families including WAP, LIHEAP, warming centers, and energy savings workshops.

Weatherization Day 2002 Activities

The Illinois state WAP office, in conjunction with the Illinois Community Action Association, conducted several events for Weatherization Day 2002. ICAA asked the Governor's office to proclaim Weatherization Day in Illinois, as was done last year. ICAA held a press conference at the Capitol with several Community Action Agency directors from the area describing the Weatherization program in their counties. ICAA issued press releases prior to the conference to its media outlets. They also sent an announcement to their member agencies detailing ICAA activities related to Weatherization Day. State WAP staff, ICAA staff and Community Action Agency staff received Weatherization Day buttons and wore them that day and provided information on the Program to those interested.
