Weatherization Day 2007 Activities

This year, Connecticut linked up with Operation Fuel's statewide annual meeting to celebrate Weatherization Day and the importance of energy conservation. During this event, an overview of the Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) was presented by Michael P. Starkowski, Commissioner of the state Department of Social Services (DSS) on the USDOE Weatherization Assistance Program in Connecticut.

Other speakers included Richard Steeves, from the Office of Consumer Council and Chair of the Energy Conservation & Management Board and Cathy Lezon, from the Northeast Utilities, Weatherization Residential Assistance Partnership (WRAP).

DSS's WAP partners with WRAP and other utility funded programs to stretch its federal dollars to weatherize additional dwelling units.

Each attendee received a Weatherization Works pin and a fluorescent light bulb as one way to start saving energy and 14 new certified auditors from the community action agencies and utility companies received their certificates.

ABCD, a local weatherization contractor, brought their weatherization truck and demonstrated various materials and measures used in the program.  The blower door was set up and various weatherization methods were demonstrated. This event was a big hit with the attendees as well as visitors to the park where the meeting was held.  Many walked away with brochures on Energy Savings hints.

Weatherization Day 2005 Activities

This year, Governor M. Jodi Rell proclaimed October 31st as Weatherization Day encouraging celebration on a statewide level. After her proclamation, an awards luncheon was held in honor of 13 newly certified auditors. The keynote speaker was Mary Healey, the state's Consumer Counsel. Representatives from the Governor's Office, State energy Office, USDOE Northeast Regional Office, Northeast Utilities, Social Services, the Connecticut's community action agencies as well as the Weatherization Residential Assistance Partnership (WRAP) were in attendance at this event. The luncheon included a display of equipment including a blower door, infrared camera, combustion tester and energy efficient light bulbs.

Weatherization Day 2004 Activities

While there were no offical Weatherization Day events on the state level, Action for Bridgeport Community Development, Inc. held an educational event at their main energy assistance intake site promoting the program and educating clients about the benefits of Weatherization.

Weatherization Day 2002 Activities

Governor John G. Rowland proclaimed October 30th as Weatherization Day in the state. The state WAP office honored 11 auditors who were successful in the last auditor certification training. A display of equipment and products used in the program and pictures of installation of certain measures were posted. The WAP partner, the Weatherization Residential Assistance Program (WRAP) - funded by the utility companies, participated in these activities. Some local agencies submitted articles and press releases to their local newspapers.
