Weatherization 2006 Activities

On October 30, US Senator Allard visited a Swansea area home where he was able to witness firsthand the benefits and impact of the Weatherization Assistance Program. The tour, hosted by both the Colorado Office of Energy Management and Conservation (OEMC) and local utility Sun Power, included a demonstration of refrigerator replacement and the addition of dense pack insulation.

On the following day, October 31, state and local agencies hosted a weatherization celebration in Grand Junction. The event marked the 30th anniversary of program, and highlighted its contributions and state of the art energy efficiency techniques. During the event, Housing Resources of Western Colorado (HRWC) conducted a tour of energy efficiency measures, provided tips on how to lower utility bills, and demonstrated a new efficient furnace as well as wall and attic insulation.

Weatherization Day 2005 Activities

This year, Colorado worked with the area's major newspapers to highlight the achievements of the Weatherization Assistance Program. The resulting articles provided invaluable information about the WAP as well as measures that could be taken by the public to make their homes more energy efficient. One article ran in the Saturday edition of the Rocky Mountain News, which has the largest circulation in Colorado. Several others were run in the Daily Camera.

Weatherization Day 2004 Activities

This year, Colorado celebrated Weatherization events throughout the state with great support from the media. The Ad Council's "Energy Hog" mascot made guest appearances at several of these events.

Weatherization Day 2003 Activities

Governor Owens signed a Weatherization Day proclamation, as he has done annually since the Weatherization Assistance Program's 25th anniversary. Governor Owens also participated in a celebration to honor the program and the staff who work at the state and local levels. Colorado's eight local Weatherization agencies hosted events in celebration of the Day. These events involved demonstrations and open houses aimed at increasing public awareness of residential energy conservation and efficiency.

Weatherization Day 2001 Activities

Colorado Governor Bill Owens proclaimed October 30th as Weatherization Day in support of the national effort to promote this important low-income initiative. The local agency in Boulder County hosted a site demonstration and the local agency in Pueblo County held a press conference. The State WAP office issued its own press release and held a news confeence at a building recently weatherized. Two local TV stations covered the event where Rick Grice, Director of the Office of Energy Management and Conservation, read the Governor's proclamation to the public.
