Weatherization Day 2007 Activities
This year, as in previous years Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger proclaimed October 30 to be Weatherization Day prompting celebrations across the state of California. "As winter approaches, I encourage all Californians to consider weatherizing their homes to lower their energy expenses and increase their energy conservation," said Schwarzenegger. In the spirit of October's Energy Month, and Weatherization Day, several articles on the Weatherization Assistance Program were published across the state.
The Governor's proclamation can be viewed at

Weatherization Day 2006 Activities
Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger recognized the plight of low-income families in meeting their home energy needs and issued a Proclamation designating October 30, 2006, as "Weatherization Day" in California to raise awareness of the importance of weatherization.
"Weatherization Day is a reminder that a network of valuable resources is available to reduce energy costs and improve energy efficiency," wrote the Governor. "I urge all Californians, especially low-income households, to take advantage of programs that can assist them in weatherizing their homes."
CSD issued a news release in English and Spanish about weatherization and posted it on the CSD website
(www.csd.ca.gov)
. On November 9, 2006, CSD and its Sacramento LIHEAP provider Community Resource Project, Inc., hosted a weatherization site demonstration, which included duct blaster and duct sealing, carbon monoxide detection, energy efficient appliance check, compact fluorescent lights, and a solar water heater installation, part of a pilot project.
Weatherization Day 2004 Activities
This year, California expended its energies on the development of the Energy Bears Coloring and Activity Book. Their Weatherization Department printed 50,000 books and provided them to their service provider network for distribution to their clientele. On the back of the activity book is a place for the agency to adhere a sticker with contact information.
Weatherization Day 2003 Activities
Although there was no official Weatherization Day this year, California's Department of Community Services and Development began the necessary outreach for Governor Schwarzenegger to declare Weatherization Day, and encourage related activities, in the near future.
Weatherization Day 2000 Activities
Riverside County Weatherization had a very complimentary article published in the Press Enterprise on October 16, 2000. The headline referred to the County helping to keep some homes cozy. Written by Laurie Koch Thrower, the story focused on how the Weatherization services were performed and highlighted the success of the program for improving affordability for low-income and disabled persons. The article also provided background on the program and the agency.
Lead Safe Weatherization
Lead Safe Weatherization identifies ways to contain lead hazards inside a work area (also known as containment) when disturbing lead-based or presumed lead-based paints and coatings. The California State Weatherization Agencies has already engaged in comprehensive Lead Safe Work Practice. The
Lead Safe Manual includes things that should not be done "The Don'ts", and things that should be done "The Dos", whenever disturbing paint on buildings built before 1979.
The Manual was written by Tom Barrett, Project Manager and Training Director, Richard Heath & Associates, Inc.
