Weatherization Day 2007 Activities

This year Alabama was fortunate to have a substantive article on the Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) published in the September/October edition of Alabama Currents. This feature highlighted the Program and its accomplishments, and detailed a site demonstration hosted by a local agency.

Weatherization Day 2006 Activities

On October 30, several agencies across Alabama collaborated to host a site demonstration for the benefit of local utility provider, Dixie Electric and Montgomery County Commissioner Jiles Williams, Jr. The demonstration earned attention from local media, producing significant interest from across the region. The host agencies' active client file list has increased from 70 to close nearly 120 as numerous inquiries continue to pour in.

Weatherization Day 2004 Activities

Governor Riley once again signed a Weatherization Day Proclamation, declaring it to be Weatherization Day 2004. Celebrations were encouraged and held on a statewide level.

Weatherization Day 2003 Activities

Governor Riley signed a Weatherization Day 2003 Proclamation, encouraging the celebration at a statewide level. Demonstrations occured at two of Alabama's local Weatherization subgrantees, generating media coverage that led directly to an increase in applications for assistance.

Weatherization Day 2002 Activities

The State of Alabama WAP Office, the Alabama Weatherization Association, and the Community Action Association of Alabama celebrated 2002 National Weatherization Day by hosting a weatherization demonstration at a client's home in Montgomery, AL. The demonstration got under with the reading of Governor Don Siegelman's 2002 Weatherization Day Proclamation. The demonstration was open to the public and attended by many media and utility representatives.

In addition the State WAP Office and the Mobile Community Action, Inc. held a National Weatherization Day event in Prichard, AL at the MCA office. About fifty people were in attendance to learn how weatherization can help lower utility bills and keep there homes warmer in this up coming winter. A guest speaker from Mobile Gas Company informed all participants about ways they could keep heating bills lower and steady throughout the winter. Goodie bags with do-it-yourself weatherization materials donated from various companies were handed out to the audience. MCA also demonstrated the blower door and discussed the WAP's success in southwest Alabama.
