CCOA Weatherization helps seniors make their homes more energy-efficient

Sunday, October 06, 2013

By Tyson Willden CCOA’s Weatherization Director

CCOA Weatherization has the ability to make a difference in peoples’ lives by making their homes more comfortable and, in many cases, more affordable.

Our normal Weatherization program is funded by sources that include the Department of Energy and the Department of Health and Welfare, as well as independent funding from Idaho Power. These funding sources allow us the opportunity to make peoples homes more energy-efficient with no cost to the client. Some of these funding sources are, however, government sources. That poses issues when we go into homes and there are clearly measures that need to be taken, but the funding will not cover the costs.

With the help of Nampa Elks Lodge #1389, this will be less of an issue. It is rare that we an outside funding source believes in the CCOA cause enough to donate unsolicited funds, but based on our program’s mission and performance, the Nampa Elks Lodge #1389 has done just this. The funding will be used for several projects, including building ramps for disabled veterans, and for installing grab bars for elderly individuals.
