Weatherization Program Underway

Wednesday, December 19, 2012

COALPORT, CLEARFIELD COUNTY - With the arrival of winter coming up on Friday, an effort is underway to make sure some houses are ready for the cold months ahead. The Pennsylvania Weatherization Assistance Program has been making a difference.

A crew from "Community Action of Central Pennsylvania" have spent the last couple of days making improvements to a home on Pine Street in Coalport.

The state wide weatherization program was originally established as part of a federally funded effort to conserve energy. The idea was to add significant amounts of insulation to homes and make them more energy efficient.

People have to meet income guidelines to qualify for the weatherization program. Sponsors of the program say the new insulation can cut utility bills by as much as 65%.

An energy audit is the first step when a homeowner is selected for the weatherization program. That can be followed by the extensive insulation work that can make a big difference in their energy use.  People interested in qualifying should contact community action or the similar agency located in their home County.
