CPS gets more money for weatherization

Friday, November 18, 2011

CPS Energy and the city of San Antonio have received $800,000 more from the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs to weatherize an estimated 160 local homes.

The stimulus-funded program has received a total of $17.3 million and is expected to weatherize about 3,500 homes by next spring.

The additional funding, accepted by the City Council on Thursday, will go to applicants who have been accepted into the Casa Verde SA program, which launched in December 2009.

The program offers improvements to homes of low-income residents, including wall, floor and attic insulation, solar screens and energy-efficient lighting, as well as health and safety measures that decrease risks such as carbon monoxide poisoning and mold.
