Louisville promoting weatherization of homes

Thursday, October 27, 2011

In effort to encourage citizens to take steps to lower their heating bills, Mayor Greg Fischer is joining in a national awareness campaign by declaring Sunday as “Weatherization Day” in Louisville.

Project Warm is also participating in National Weatherization Day by providing free weatherization workshops at all eight Neighborhood Place locations Friday. Participants will receive free supplies and learn “do-it-yourself” weatherization tips. Contact Metro Call at 311 to find the closest Neighborhood Place for information on workshops offered on other dates.

The city’s Weatherization Assistance Program receives most of its funding from the federal Department of Energy and is administered locally by the Louisville Metro Department of Community Services and Revitalization.

Families who are homeowners or renters in Louisville may be eligible for weatherization help if their income is at or below 200 percent of the federal poverty line which, for a family of four, is $44,700. For more information, contact 574-3107.
