National Weatherization Day 2011 is set for Thursday, and a Weatherization Day Celebration will be held at the Davidson Community College Brinkley Building from 3 to 6 p.m.
The weatherization program is designed to weatherize the homes of elderly, handicapped and low-income people. Measures may include all or some of the following depending on needs: improving health and safety conditions by addressing carbon monoxide levels and combustion safety; sealing air leaks; performing general heat waste measures; installing insulation in attics, walls and floors; replacing existing lighting with energy-efficient bulbs; performing tune-ups and repairs to heating and cooling systems.
The mission of the Weatherization Assistance Program is to improve energy efficiency and household safety and educate the public about maintaining energy efficiency. Eligibility is based on combined household income for all household members. Services are free to qualifying homeowners. For a small fee charged to the landlord, rental units can receive weatherization measures if the tenant is income eligible.
The event will include refreshments and door prizes and will showcase companies and organizations that provide services and products for home weatherizing. There is no fee to attend.
